#1. Who we are
HedgeHog is a backgammon analysis and play service operated by Lambooij Software, a sole trader (eenmanszaak) registered in the Netherlands with the Chamber of Commerce under number 53937627, at Balistraat 32, 3531PX, Utrecht, The Netherlands.
OpenGammon and HedgeHog are trading names of Lambooij Software. Contact us at hello@hedgehog-bg.com. How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
#2. Your account
You need to be 16 or older to hold an account. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person.
#3. Plans and prices
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| Free | free | free |
| Standard | EUR 5.95 | EUR 59.95 |
| Pro | EUR 11.95 | EUR 119.95 |
Prices include VAT. The price shown at checkout is the price that applies. What each plan includes is described on the pricing page; we may change what is included, and if a change is materially bad for you on a paid plan we will give you 30 days' notice and you can cancel for a pro-rata refund.
#3a. Guest passes
Paid plans include a small number of guest passes each year. A pass is a single-use code you give to somebody else; whoever redeems it gets 30 days of Standard on their own account, with no payment and nothing to cancel.
- Passes are issued as soon as your subscription is active, and a pass you have not given away expires 90 days after it is issued.
- A pass is a benefit of an active subscription. If your subscription ends (by cancellation, by withdrawal, or because a payment was not made), or we refund your payment in full, any pass you were issued and nobody has redeemed stops working. A month somebody has already redeemed is theirs and is not affected.
- You cannot redeem your own pass, and a granted month carries no refund or cash value.
- We may withhold or cancel passes where they are being used abusively, on the same terms as section 8 and section 11.
#4. Fair use
Paid plans are sold as unlimited within fair use. In practice that means a guideline of 50 server match analyses per week on Standard and 200 on Pro, measured over a rolling 7 days. Only server-side match analyses count: single positions, live-ply queries and analysis your own browser runs do not, and cancelled or failed analyses do not.
This is a guideline, not a cap. We do not block you for going over it, and a week above the line is not a breach of these terms. What we reserve is the right to act on sustained or gross excess: roughly double the guideline and up, and in particular scripted or bulk submission, running analysis as a service for other people, sharing an account, or reselling. In those cases we will normally contact you first; for clear abuse we may suspend or close the account.
#5. Billing, renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions are paid in advance and renew automatically on whichever interval you chose, until you cancel. We send a reminder about 14 days before an annual renewal. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card details.
You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep the service until the end of the period you have paid for, after which the account moves to the Free plan.
#6. Refunds
If you change your mind within 14 days of your first subscription, tell us and we will refund it in full, no questions asked. This does not affect your statutory right of withdrawal as an EU consumer, which we will always honour.
After that, we do not automatically refund a period that has already started - including the unused months of an annual term. If you cancel an annual subscription part-way through, ask us and we will consider it case by case.
#7. Your content
Matches, positions and notes you create are yours. You give us permission to store, process and display them so we can run the service for you. If you choose to make a match public or broadcast it, you are also allowing us to show it to anyone with the link, until you make it private again or delete it.
We do not use your content to train or evaluate our models unless you have opted in. It is off by default. You can turn it on or off at any time, and turning it off stops any future use.
#8. Using the service properly
Do not use HedgeHog to cheat in a live game against another person, and do not break the law or other people's rights with content you upload. Do not scrape the service, hammer the API, or resell access.
Analysis is information, not advice. We do not guarantee it is correct, and what you do with it is up to you.
#9. Availability
We do our best to keep the service running but do not promise any particular uptime. Some features are experimental and may change or disappear. If we ever withdraw the service, we will give you at least 30 days' notice so you can export your matches, and refund any unused paid period.
#10. Liability
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury, for fraud or gross negligence, or anything else the law does not let us limit, including your rights as a consumer.
Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of EUR 100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for lost profits, lost opportunities, or the outcome of any backgammon match.
#11. Suspension and termination
You can close your account at any time by asking us. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms; except for clear abuse, we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to fix it first.
When an account closes you have 90 days to export your matches, after which we delete your data. You can ask us to delete it sooner and we will do so within 30 days. Free accounts that are unused for 12 months are deleted, and we will email you before that happens.
#12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give 30 days' notice by email or in the app. If you do not agree, cancel before the change takes effect.
#13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law, and the Dutch courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction. As a consumer you keep the protections of your own country's law, and you can bring a claim where you live.
If something goes wrong, email hello@hedgehog-bg.com first. Most things are fixable that way. You can also complain to your national consumer authority (ACM/ConsuWijzer in the Netherlands), or, for a cross-border purchase within the EU, get help from the European Consumer Centre network.
The EU's Online Dispute Resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025, so there is no longer a link to give you. We are not signed up to an alternative dispute resolution scheme.
